Many countries hold an annual celebratory event for their independence or freedom. Iranians do not have such an annual event. Instead we celebrate the date that, after one and a half years of struggle and loss of life, we enthusiastically freed our border city of Khoramshahr, during the Iran-Iraq war, in 1982, from Saddam Hossein’s aggressive forces. May 2012 was the 30th anniversary of this event, a group of well known writers, war veterans and artists of the Iranian cinema took the initiative and suggested that this celebration to take place at a prison in Lorestan, one of the most deprived parts of Iran. ››read more
