Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says Tehran is preparing itself to counter all Western plans aimed at mounting pressure on the Islamic Republic.
“Tehran is examining even the worst-case scenarios and preparing itself to counteract them,” said Salehi.
The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks in reference to the fresh round of western-imposed sanctions against Iran over its peaceful nuclear program.
Ali-Akbar Salehi also said that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, known as the P5+1 group, is not the arbitrator on its nuclear energy program.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said, “The P5+1 group is not the source of arbitration on Iran's nuclear activities and only the International Atomic Energy Agency is the major source of arbitration in this regard."
He expressed satisfaction with a recent trip by an IAEA delegation to Iran, saying that some steps were taken towards resolution of the differences.
He added that talks would continue when the delegation makes another visit in the near future, noting that the IAEA's visits have to do with technical and legal matters.
Iran’s Foreign Minister also warned that any military intervention in Syria will have devastating repercussions in the Middle East and would lead to the "explosion" of the entire region.
"I'm confident that any military action against Syria will blow up the entire region ... a military intervention does not solve any problem, especially because the Syrian situation differs from that of Libya, seeing the country's sole role is fighting Israel,” Salehi said.
He added that “Syria is now paying the price of its resistance.”
Salehi also expressed surprise over the Arab League actions with regards to Syria, at a time when the observer mission is still performing its job in Syria.
The Iranian foreign minister said Russia and China are aware of the Western project to fragmentize the region.
"The Russians are aware now that the Western states are interfering in the Middle East to draw a new map for the region," he said.
