Letter to Sunday Independent: The invasion of Iraq is not history, neither for the victims nor for McCain himself

Sir, Your Leading Article: "Even McCain stands for change” of 3/2/08, whilst promoting Republican McCain as a green conservative, opposed to Bush’s tax cuts, torture and Guantanamo concentration camps, argues that McCain’s strong support for the invasion of Iraq is "history" and something that "humanitarians and progressives" also supported. The invasion is certainly not history for the Iraqis, with over a million dead and still dying, or the young men and women from the Coalition who are losing their lives and limbs and minds every day, nor is it history for McCain himself, whose singing “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran …” to the tune of The Beach Boy’s song, in his South Carolina Campaign in April warned the anti war movement of an unhinged militarist who could either end history or leave any survivors nostalgic for Bush’s ‘peace loving’, ‘progressive humanitarianism’!

Yours sincerely
