UK peace groups consolidate under "Campaign Iran"
London, Nov. 6, 2006. Action Iran, CASMII UK and Iran Solidarity, the three UK based single issue campaign groups against war and sanctions on Iran, are merging into a single organisation in the UK called Campaign Iran, which will be part of the multinational Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran (CASMII).
Representatives of all the three merging organisations have actively participated on the editorial board of CASMII (www.campaigniran.org) which will now become the website of the united organisation.
Founded in 2005, Action Iran has been a coalition of Iranian and non-Iranian individuals and organisations from diverse backgrounds who campaign against any form of military intervention or sanctions on Iran, and call for a non-interventionist non-military dialogue with Iran over its civilian nuclear programme.
CASMII UK has been the UK branch of the Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran with another main chapter in the US. CASMII has called for immediate negotiations of the US and its European allies with Iran without any preconditions.
Iran Solidarity has aimed to provide news and education on the issues facing Iran today. It has provided activist events for the peace movement in solidarity with the people of Iran against the war mongering motives of the United States of America.
Campaign Iran is independent of all political groups and governments and holds universal respect for human rights as its core value. We believe that any form of sanctions and military intervention against Iran will lead to another major humanitarian, environmental, and economic catastrophe for all the people of the region and in particular Iranians, profoundly damaging their efforts towards democracy and a better future. The continued US-lead terror in the Middle East must stop.
In our united actions against any attacks on Iran, Campaign Iran will strive to bring together the broadest possible spectrum of thoughts, ideas and forces, inclusive of opinions from within Iran, regardless of political and ideological differences.
