Imposing a pretext for war with Iran?

Sen. John McCain confirmed his status as the war candidate with his rhetoric on Iran during the first presidential debate ("Result too close to call," Sept. 27).

His insistence on negotiating with Iran only after that country first meets U.S.-imposed conditions seems designed to fail.

One wonders if such negotiations might not become an elaborate pretext for war.
