Is the stage being set for a US attack on Iran? The Guardian newspaper of London is reporting that the balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has reportedly shifted in favor of military action before President Bush leaves office in 18 months. The Guardian quotes what it calls a "well-placed source in Washington" as saying: "Bush is not going to leave office with Iran still in Limbo." The source also said Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney did not trust any potential successors in the White House, Republican or Democrat, to deal with Iran decisively. ››read more

He met Senator Lieberman with CODEPINK members last week.
CASMII was the principal Iran-oriented organization participating in the recent Third National Assembly of United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ). Convening in Chicago from June 22 to 24, UFPJ delegates represented over 1300 national and local groups working on peace, anti-imperialism, and racial, economic and gender equity. UFPJ's main focus for 2007-2008 is bringing an end to the U.S. involvement in Iraq and forestalling further military projection into the Middle East region. ››read more
The Iranian cyclists of "Miles for Peace" arrived in New York on June 17th. On the 18th, I caught up with them at the site of the World Trade Center tragedy where they were gathering signatures on their peace banner. As I arrived, I recognized the faint but distinct melody of John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" blasting through an ipod on a hand-held speaker accessory. ››read more
